Name: Ross Arnette
Where did you grow up?
When did you become part of our Family here at CrossFit Inland Valley?
October of 2014
What do you do when you are not here at CrossFit Inland Valley (occupation, hobbies, etc)?
I am a Master Sergeant in the Marine Corps and the Aviation Ordnance Chief for a F-18 Squadron at MCAS Miramar in San Diego. I am a sports junkie and when I'm not at work or working out I'm watching sports. I absolutely love the game of football! Coached my oldest son's football team for six years and wouldn't mind coaching football at the High School level when I retire from the Marine Corps.
How did you first find out about Crossfit?
March of 2014. One of the Marines that used to work for me last year was a level 1 instructor and he ran daily WOD's and strength training when our squadron was deployed last year and decided to give it a shot. I was hooked from day one!!
When did you realize that Crossfit was right for you?
Before Crossfit I thought I was in pretty good shape and after my first week of doing Crossfit I could hardly walk. I loved the competitiveness and that it combined many different aerobic, anaerobic, Olympic lifts and gymnastic movements. I love that no matter how good of an athlete you think you are, in Crossfit you have so much more you could learn.
What is your favorite WOD or movement?
Any WOD that pushes me to exhaustion!
What is your least favorite or feared WOD or movement?
I don't fear any WOD but I'm extremely competitive and I get disappointed with myself don't do very well in a WOD or lift.
If you would come up with a WOD, what would that be and what would you call it?
I would call it "Misery"
5 rounds of: 15 thrusters, 100 double unders, 30 burpees
Please name one movement or WOD that you have done here at CrossFit Inland Valley that you never thought you would do:
Overhead Squats, still not that good at them but I can string some together which is something I couldn't do six months ago.
What motivates you during a Crossfit WOD?
Finishing first. I absolutely hate losing!
Please tell us something about yourself that we would never know:
I'm not very strong at all!!
What advice would you give to someone just getting started with Crossfit?
Leave your ego at the door. Crossfit movements require at lot of technique so scale down, learn the techniques/movements correctly and it will all start to fall in place. Also if you are using Crossfit as a means to get a better body understand that it's 70% diet and 30% training that will get you the results you want.
Complete the following:
- I like meeting new people.
- I eat mostly clean but I do have cheat days. I love doughnuts!!!
- I do want to make the Crossfit games (masters) by 2018
- I am very driven.
What’s your favorite type of music to crush a good WOD?
Mostly techno or hip hop because the upbeat tempo gets me in a rhythm and pushes me.
