Desiree and Russ started CrossFitting in August and it's been amazing to see changes! They are extremely motivated to do better and they push each other. I'm so proud of them and it's great to be able to call them friends.

1. Tell us about you, where do you work, do you have a nickname?

Desiree: Idk what to say about myself except I am a stay at home mom of two boys. Last time I had a job was oct of 08! I wouldn't say I have a nickname really, just shorter abbreviations of my name. Dez, Desi.

Russ: I am a Co Manager for Walmart. As far as nicknames go Lenny (I don't know my own strength mice of men reference)and the moist' s man in gym! ( Ryan or Rob can explain that one)

2. What do you do for fun on your time off?

Desiree: Define time off... when I have time off I go to the box. Lol really I'm just a simple happy kinda person. If I'm with my family, I'm happy.

Russ: Mostly enjoy my time off work getting gains at crossfit with my boo, I also love to watch sports and teach my boys how to play sports. Being from Texas I Also love to BBQ but don't get it twisted if you don't put BBQ sauce on it or your cooking hotdogs and hamburgers it's just a cookout!

3. What made you start CrossFit?

Desiree: I was tired of trying to make and change up my work outs at a classic gym.

Russ: Always wanted to go to rock fitness went for a tour and they were super assholes as we left there we drove by our box we met Christina and Charles they really made us want to be part of the crossfit family.

4. Why CrossFit Inland Valley?

Desiree: The exact moment I knew CFIV was what I wanted is when Christina said it was a Community type of place. We went to a different crossfit closer to our house and we didn't have the same feelings.

Russ: After we met Christina and Charles that day I went to a different box next to our house and really hated the owner and realized inland valley was worth the drive

5. What were your thoughts after your first WOD?

Desiree: After baseline, I thought I was going to throw up or sh*t my pants. I didn't know what was happening. Lol but after my first WOD I was in love and knew I made the right choice!

Russ: Maybe we shouldn't cancel our fitness 19 membership Lol and I really don't want to barf after baseline only cause the same day we did our introduction the guy before us did lol

6. Do you have a favorite WOD, movement or lift?

Desiree: I like DL because I can do the most weight. But I like split jerk and snatch. Any kind of strongman moves are especially exciting.

Russ: Love the rower and deadlifts

7. What would be your least favorite WOD, movement or lift?

Desiree: Any WOD with running!!!

Russ: Anything involving any type of handstand movements and of course Burpee's

8. Have you set some CrossFit goals for 2017? If so, would you like to share them?

Desiree: My physique and technique are my first personal goals. Then I'd like to start getting in to the heavier barbell weight. I'd like to compete in a competition some day but can't say that'd happen in 2017.

Russ: Be able to lift 405 in deadlift, back squat, and bench press. And to focus on correct technique on all Olympic and gymnastic movements.

9. What impact has CrossFit Inland Valley had on your life, in and out of the gym?

Desiree: In the gym I feel part of a family, like the people there care about one another. They want to see each other succeed and they lift each other up. Out of the gym, it has made me more confident to put myself first.

Russ: Everything in my life has been better! I really enjoy the community we have become a part of, the coaches push me to be my best every day I come in , and love what it has done for my wife and children.

10. How is your nutrition?

Desiree: After what seems like hours of picking everyone's brain. (mostly Ryan's) I have found room to improve. Sense I believe my goals are lofty and not easily achieved I make sure I don't waste anyone's time and put there information to good use.

Russ: Ryan has really helped us in this area!! Desiree ask tons of questions!! As a family we have truly changed things for the better.

11. Did you play any sports when you were younger or prior to doing CrossFit?

Desiree: When I was younger I played volleyball, I was on the drill team and I was a cheerleader. (SURPRISE)

Russ: Played sports my entire life but Football and basketball were my main focus

12. What can you tell other people thinking about starting CrossFit but still feel intimidated?

Desiree: If your taking classes at a classic gym you'll have no problem in this group setting. They scale everything so there is something for everyone at every level, age or size. If you've had a personal trainer then this is like that times 10! You get longer more intense sessions. If you haven't done either then you definitely need to get here asap and try it out. You'll feel proud of the things your body can do.

Russ: Just try it you really don't have anything to lose. I feel like most of us that love crossfit we all thought we were in good shape or at least going in the right direction before starting crossfit. Then you do your first WOD........ It's next level fitness and what you pour into the you get out of it.

13. Would you like to add anything else?

Desiree: I am a question queen. Annoying at times but I don't care. if you don't ask you won't do it right and won't get the results you are hoping for. The people here have so much knowledge and they are willing to share it, you just have to ask.
